Olive, now Liv, has avoided her father’s recent postcards, since he decided to take off back to Greece when she was eight without a word. Because as Liv slowly begins to discover, her father may not have invited her to Greece for Atlantis, but for something much more important. I think that of all of the books in this “series” this was my least favorite, which was disappointing because I was really looking forward to it. She’s got a great sense of style, she’s a talented artist, and she is surprisingly chill about solo international travel at such a young age.

Olive has a boyfriend back home for the majority of the time she’s in Santorini having a flirtation-ship with Theo, the son of her dad’s friend. I thought it was a way of protecting herself, but sometimes I felt she was protecting herself against something that wasn’t as obvious as she thought. My main problem lays with Liv, how her father from the very first time she stepped to Greece used her for her talent and free labor, and she didn't even realized it, and went with it. I suppose this comp was made because it takes place in Greece and the main character strives to form a relationship with her father (although Liv is much more reluctant). There's no violence but some scariness from a recurring nightmare and a panic attack while scuba diving. She’s smart and artistic, and I couldn’t help feeling for her as she faced this unexpected trip to reunite with her estranged father. Thankfully, the strong storylines of adventure and learning to understand those who have hurt you in the past made up for this.

In 2020 where we can barely go between different states in the US, I was eager to read a book set overseas in a different pandemic-less time. I'm not even sure how to rate this because parts of it were creeping into 5 star territory and other parts were rant material. By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. She’d been on UC Berkeley’s waitlist for almost six months, and I’d seen how hard she’d worked on her SAT prep. There’s nothing wrong with cheerleaders, but I’d gone from these books about magical worlds, secret gardens, and spies and suddenly, the magic was gone, and it was all about popularity. As his lies begin to catch up with him, Sunny Dae is forced to wonder whether it was all worth it—and if it’s possible to ever truly change. It’s such a compelling mystery, and I really enjoyed learning about it as Liv, her dad, and Theo went sightseeing and interviewing people about it as they filmed.

The episodes were described accurately and made me think of my sister who suffers from the same illness. Well at first, things went badly and akward but as she spent her days, she was growing on the place.

Love and Olives’s story revolved around the theme of losing inhibitions and forgiveness, whereas Love and Gelato was centered around grief and confusion and looking for guidance. In Sisterhood Everlasting, the ten-years-later Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants sequel by Ann Brashears, the gals take a reunion trip to Greece! From their first meet-cute to them sleeping in the same cramped attic-like setup on separate beds less than a few feet away from each other and breaking into a building to use the pool, it’s clear that Liv and Theo have…some kind of attraction for each other that both of them continue to deny by bringing up Dax right as something is going to happen between the two. They have chemistry together from the start, but Liv keeps insisting that she has to be faithful to her boyfriend back home (eyeroll) and Theo is a respectful king. Much of the story is dedicated to Liv’s father’s documentary about Atlantis, and I was so impressed to see multiple theories about it discussed in detail.

Theo takes her to the meetup place where her father has thoughtfully put out a belated birthday spread with all of Olive's favorite things. books are cool because i have precisely 0 whirlwind european vacations in my future, but this let me pretend. In the end it did come together, but it took awhile to get to that payoff, and I still had a few issues. With this third book especially, I asked myself what teenagers would do on Santorini and then did all of those things: cliff jumping, trying new foods, and petting stray dogs.

I had some issues with connecting to the story and the main character which I think is why it felt too long for me. As of two weeks ago he is officially a high school graduate, a fact that tipped my world slightly off-balance though I’ve been working hard to conceal it. I organized this by genre and release date, and I always preface my rounds-up by saying that I will definitely have more 2024 anticipated releases as the year continues and more books are announced ( I see you Fourth Wing 3 👀🤞🏻).
