About this deal

It was a caricature of ponderous dullness, the confusion of a man who finds himself in a situation not of his making and from which he cannot escape. Saul Laski, and his tormentor, an officer of the SS he refers to as Oberst (Supreme or Colonel), Willi Borden, who in 1980 America, is a sleazy Hollywood producer.

Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. The NBC executive had murdered the five members of his family and drowned a visiting soap opera actress in his pool.

What you thought happened only a few days ago actually took place back in early spring, and what seemed like months ago turns out to have been last week. The evening light was sending its final, horizontal rays through the stained glass panels of the bay windows and it cast a red hue on Willi as he stood next to the oak cupboard. Willi has apparently been working with the televangelist to vote to take the Island Club "games" global.I don’t even know how long that entire sequence was where our heroes, along with the help of a Philadelphia street gang, were battling Melanie and her minions, but it lasted quite a while and was an epic within an epic, akin to a mid-season finale in a television series. On the day he was killed, Charles Edgar Larchmont had been my beau for precisely five months and two days. Add in the real-life horrors of the Holocaust that Simmons goes into great detail with, and the opening few hundred pages of his book are unforgettable. Simmons wrote him as outwardly the podunk, too-big-for-his-britches southern Sheriff, but in actuality, he was fiercely focused, aware and intelligent to what was going on. So, after the chess match, Saul is virtually alone with Willi (his servant, Reynolds is also there, as well as a drunk Harod).

All humans feed on violence, on the small exercises of power over another, but few have tasted—as we have—the ultimate power. I do not remember the purported cause of the quarrel, perhaps some deliberate misinterpretation of one of Charles’s jokes.

Probably the last of the great horror epics I had on my TBR List after The Stand, It, and Swan Song by Robert McCammon. I swear I’m a moral pacifist like Saul, but well, like Saul, when you’re up against these … subhumans, they have to be neutralized, to use a euphemism. The dialogue of the block gang members sounded like the jive-talkers in the movie Airplane, I have a hard believing in 1980 that gang members really said honky that much. Sooo I have resolved after three very long, very bad books, that I will never complete a bad book if I'm just really not feeling it. We have seen something like this before of course, in the Eisenhorn and Ravenor series by Dan Abnett, and Chris Wraight’s latest definitely brings to mind the best of those two, which are very much foundational works of Warhammer 40,000.
