Written by uber-fans Kevin May and David McElroy, with Halo we find ourselves shadowing the band in the studio, on an intense, pivotal worldwide tour and on the sets of arty Super 8 vignettes.

We are hoping to release translated versions in a number of languages in addition to the English language version.

If you would like to keep up with At The Barrier, you can like us on Facebook here , follow us on Twitter here , and follow us on Instagram here . These types of books are written for at least two reasons – to discover the undiscovered… yet and to describe unknown facts for the first time. The guys perfectly reflect the spirit of the times and the intensive production process of Alan, Flood, and François as well as other great professionals who appeared from the demos to the final sounds of the tour in November 1990 with the band.

With 'Halo', authors Kevin May and David McElroy have produced an essential guide for Depeche Mode fans and anyone inquisitive about the making of a classic, genre-defining album. This review/interview at least I tried to make it in English 😉 but if you’d like to read it in your native language or have the pleasure of reading Google-translated interviews. million copies following its release in March 1990, ‘Violator’ gave the cult British band – Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, Andy ‘Fletch’ Fletcher and Alan Wilder – the critical acclaim they finally deserved. Dave Gahan and Alan Wilder or Martin Gore and Andy Fletcher, for example, would do the rounds of the radio and TV stations, magazines and newspapers to espouse the virtues of their latest public output. The blog focusses on Depeche Mode and is especially known for The Global Spirit Tour Project which saw David publish a fan-written review of all 130 concerts on Depeche Mode’s 2017/18 Global Spirit Tour, three of which were written by his co-author, Kevin.

The second reason, equally important, is to collect all the diffused pieces of information, sometimes trifles, so that they are finally in one place.Still, such appearances would be planned weeks in advance and would often mean the band and their entourage would head off to a European city somewhere to perform the song and cram in countless numbers of interviews with local media. At various points this month we will share highlights from the book and even a few exclusives that you won't find in the book or anywhere else.

Last year Kevin very kindly asked me if I would co-author the book and I was delighted to accept his offer.

Produced by the band with the influential studio guru Flood and mixed by the legendary François Kevorkian, 'Violator' is viewed as a hugely groundbreaking body of work by countless musicians and DJs, such was its progressive synthesis of electronic, rock, dance and pop music. David now lives in Glasgow with his increasingly out of control Depeche Mode collection and runs the Depeche Mode blog Almost Predictable Almost. At the end of the day, it’s a good pop song… yes, there are probably songs like ‘Enjoy The Silence’ that were bigger hits, but for a song that was done and dusted very early on in that process, it made perfect sense to release that first.
